Sovereignty and Free will

How do we reconcile the fact that God is sovereign with the fact that he has given us free will as persons? I don’t see any problem in reconciling the sovereignty of God with man’s free will as long as we understand the biblical concept of freedom. With respect to mankind, human beings are given the ability to make free choices, but our freedom is a limited freedom.

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt; they have done abominable works; there is none that doth good. —Ps. 14:1. This psalm is a description of the deplorable corruption by nature of every son of Adam, since the withering of that common root.

Why We Must Think Rightly About God

O, Lord God Almighty, not the God of the philosophers and the wise but the God of the prophets and apostles; and better than all, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, may I express Thee unblamed? They that know Thee not may call upon Thee as other than Thou art, and so worship not Thee but a creature of their own fancy; therefore enlighten our minds that we may know Thee as Thou art, so that we may perfectly love Thee and worthily praise Thee.
